The CountryLink XPT (Xpress Passenger Train) was first introduced to New South Wales in 1982. In 1993, brand new carriages were delivered and the existing carriages were completely refurbished with new seats, carpet and curtains.
The CountryLink XPT travels from Sydney to Brisbane, Melbourne, Dubbo and Grafton. Based on British Rail's Intercity 125, the CountryLink XPTs were built in Australia and have been adapted to Australian conditions.
On 18 Sept. 1992 at Culcairn, north of Albury, New South Wales, the CountryLink XPT set a new speed record of 193 km/h. Its maximum operating speed is 160 km/h.

The first CountryLink XPLORER set sail in October 1993 bound for Tamworth. Now the fleet links Sydney with Tamworth, Armidale, Moree, Broken Hill and Australia's national capital, Canberra.
Built in Victoria, Australia, the XPLORER's use technology proven in both Australian and European rail service. Whisper quiet and environmentally friendly, CountryLink XPLORER's can separate and run as two, three or five car sets. Click here for additional information
